The new Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition is out and as the list of reviews have continued to grow, it is clear that the consensus opinion is . . . awesome. Right out of the box, you will notice the nearly two foot long drone, which now comes in three different camouflage styles, is its solid construction, which, as it turns out is not even necessary as crashes are non-existent for the most part. The AR 2.0 Drone Elite Edition comes with a smart feature, which means it can make minor adjustments on its own to help it stay aloft and out of any trouble. This is extremely important and a valuable edition for all of us who have accidentally crashed a few drones along the way.
The AR 2.0 is also controlled entirely through the use of a mobile app, available for iOS an Android tools, smartphones and tablets to name a few. Parrot offers a free easy to use program that can be downloaded quite quickly. The FreeFlight program is so simple to use but still possesses enough optional capabilities that makes using it extremely entertaining.
My favorite aspect of the AR Drone 2.0 is its built in camera . It is strong enough and of high enough quality to take great pictures. Even on the fly, the camera has the ability to take crystal clear photos and videos all under the control of a mobile device. The cost of the AR Drone 2.0 is ridiculously reasonable when you consider it is one of the few drones on the market with the camera already built in. The drone makes use of not one but two cameras: one a front facing HD camera at 720p and a lower resolution camera that faces downward for aerial views .
The most popular feature of the AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition is the simplicity in its control. The ability of even a first time flyer is quite impressive as with just a few practice attempts the drone is flying and flipping its way across the skyline. That’s right, the AR Drone 2.0 can do flips, and it is quite a thrill to see it up close. It took me just a few practice flights before I felt confident enough to really let her loose, but once I did, I was perfectly satisfied with the drone’s design, performance capability, programming interface, and, let’s not forget one of the most important parts of any review, its affordability.
